How To Always Look Good For The Camera This Holiday Season

So we all know the holidays are about taking pictures with the fam, the delicious food (calorie-free of course!), the scenery, etc., but are you always camera ready? Check out these camera-ready tips for the holidays!

Your Hair
  • Clean hair always looks best, if you are in between washes use a dry shampoo to eliminate an oily look.
  • Unless you have ombré hair, roots are a definite no; roots look even worse in a photograph.
  • Make sure you are free of flyaways but full of shine by using a serum.
  • Finish with a shine light hold hairspray for a polished look that has movement.
Your Make-Up
  • Use a matte primer to ensure a shine free look.
  • Apply an extra coat of mascara to emphasize your lashes.
  • A contrasting lip color is best to accentuate your lips.
  • A little extra blush goes a long way to show off bone structure and your face shape.
Your Outfit
  • Wear silhouettes that suit your body shape
  • Ruffles and flowy silhouettes create a fuller look
  • Tailored garments are slimming and create a more contoured shape
  • Black is always the most flattering color
  • Vertical stripes add length to your body while horizontal stripes add width
  • Solids are always more flattering than prints
  • Bright colors draw attention and emphasize the area where they are worn
You
  • The most important aspect to remember while taking a picture is confidence; feeling confident in your look when you smile will always show in a photograph

Nicest Canadian Couple in the World Doles Out Lottery Winnings

What a heart warming story...just had to share Liz Goodwin's article!

A retired Canadian couple who won $11.3 million in the lottery in July have already given it (almost) all away.

"What you've never had, you never miss," 78-year-old Violet Large explained to a local reporter.

She was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer when the couple realized they'd won the jackpot in July.

"That money that we won was nothing," her tearful husband, Allen, told Patricia Brooks Arenburg of the Nova Scotia Chronicle Herald. "We have each other."

The money was a "headache," they told the paper--mainly, it brought anxiety over the prospect that "crooked people" might take advantage of them. Several people called them out of the blue to ask for money when the news first broke that they'd won the jackpot. So they began an $11 million donation spree to get rid of it and help others, the Chronicle Herald reports:

They took care of family first and then began delivering donations to the two pages' worth of groups they had decided on, including the local fire department, churches, cemeteries, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, hospitals in Truro and Halifax, where Violet underwent her cancer treatment, and organizations that fight cancer, Alzheimer's and diabetes. The list goes on and on.

Violet told the Canadian Press that they retained about 2 percent of the money for a rainy day.

"It made us feel good," Violet told the Chronicle Herald. "And there's so much good being done with that money."

The Nova Scotia couple have been married more than 35 years and quietly saved up the money that Allen made as a welder and Violet made in retail before retiring.

"We haven't spent one cent on ourselves because we've been too busy getting everything looked after and with my health, I have to wait to get my health back to get the energy to do anything," Violet told the National Post. "We're not travelers anyway. We live in the country and we're proud of it. Money can't buy you health or happiness."

Now their neighborhood is abuzz over their good deeds.

"People who know them just know that's the type of people they are—they're just happy to have each other," local restaurant owner Lori Hingley told the Canadian Press.

The prize was in Canada dollars (roughly equal to U.S. dollars at current exchange rates).

Great article from Kyle Munzenrieder at the Miami New Times today! So remember Matthew Bellamy? He was the brave man who got booed and escorted out of a Cleveland Indians home game by police simply because he dared to wear LeBron James' Miami Heat jersey. Yeah, we never thought we'd ever hear about him again. Well, according to an unconfirmed report from The Cleveland Scene, Bellamy says he's being flown to Miami this weekend by the Heat to attend a game and meet the team. On the eve of the elections...a few factors you may have failed to consider! :)

Hair IQ Score™ Predicts Political Races for 2010

Rating Butting Heads Cuomo and Paladino Is Easy, But Florida Gubernatorial Candidate Rick Scott Poses Dilemma For Dr. Larry Shapiro’s Hair IQ Score. How Do You Rank Baldness?

According to Dr. Larry Shapiro’s Hair IQ Score, the more you have and the closer it comes to a wave perfect Ronald Reagan “10” might just give you the edge you need to win a hair-tight political race.

In New York, Paladino has slight lead over Cuomo by a point on Hair IQ Score, with a “margin of hairror” of 2. But what do you do when one of the candidates in the tightest of gubernatorial races is bald?

Since hair transplant surgeon Dr. Shapiro doesn’t want to insult someone who could very well be the next governor in his home state (and maybe a future client), he has elected to do the politically correct thing by assigning Scott an ‘N/A’ for “Not Applicable.”

Dr. Shapiro recently announced Hair IQ Scores (www.hairiqscore.com) for celebrities, but now turns his hair-splitting analysis to politics, which just might determine “out combs,” said Tom Madden, CEO of TransMedia Group, known for its hair-spinning publicity (www.transmediagroup.com).

“By focusing on factors such as texture, health, body, shine, presentation and color, Dr. Shapiro is making us look at politics and celebrities in a whole new way,” said Madden.

Democrat Alex Sink’s sultry brunette bob reached a score of 7 and in the New York Governor’s Race, Paladino’s short, styled, but graying mane scored him an impressive 8, over Cuomo’s 7.

In Illinois, Republican Mark Kirk scores a 7, just one point under Democrat Alexi Giannoulias, an 8. Both Kirk and Giannoulias have thick, rich, brunette toned tresses, the right image for political success!

In the New York Senate Race, Democratic candidate, Kirsten Gillibrand scores hairs above Joe DiGuardio, the Republican candidate. Gillibrand’s short, feminine, blonde hairstyle scored a near perfect 9, whereas DioGuardio’s middle brown colored short and professional male cut puts him at only 5.

Go to www.HairIQscore.com to see more of Dr. Shapiro’s political and celebrity ratings and suggestions of how to raise your Hair IQ with his line of Help Hair products (www.helphair.com). So instead of “As Maine goes, so goes the Nation, it might be as mane goes,” said Madden.
